Polaris On Hold, Again

The Fairbanks City Council is back to square one on a plan to demolish the deteriorating Polaris Hotel. The long vacant downtown high rise is plagued by mold, asbestos and other issues, but as KUAC’s Robert Hannon reports, a city plan to acquire the building and take it down has suffered a setback.

Alaskans will celebrate the Alaska Highway’s 75th anniversary this year, and organizers of those celebrations plan to include tributes to the African-American soldiers who helped carve the road out of rugged wilderness. On Tuesday, a roomful of people at the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce meeting got to meet one of them.

Pioneer Park 50th

Fairbanks’ Pioneer Park is turning fifty. The park, which opens for the season tomorrow (Sat), was built to host a 3 month long exhibition in 1967 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the purchase of Alaska. As KUAC's Dan Bross reports, the park has endured as a tourist attraction and community resource.
