The 35th Annual Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race started Saturday, February 3 in downtown Fairbanks. Mushers and their dog teams head over mountains, through blowing snow, across frozen rivers, enduring frigid temperatures and rugged conditions for 1,000 miles to the finish line in Whitehorse, Yukon. Yukon Quest dogs were examined by veterinarians yesterday (Sun), in anticipation of this Saturday’s start of the Fairbanks to Whitehorse sled dog race. As KUAC’s Zoe Rom reports, the check-ups are conducted to make sure the dogs are ready to run a thousand miles.
