Fairbanks, AK - A handful of Fairbanks schools have been on high security alert in the last two days due to two separate incidents.

An armed standoff early Tuesday disrupted the morning commute for residents of west Fairbanks.  The incident also rerouted more than 20 school buses. Karen Gaborik is the School District Interim Superintendent.  She says at least 140 kids were late to morning classes. “That’s a fair number of students coming late to school," she says. "We also had staff who got stuck in traffic as well.”

Alaska State Troopers are investigating vandalism at the Delta Junction cemetery over the weekend. The vandals drove through the fence both on the way in and out of the cemetery and then ran over several gravesites on their way to the gazebo, which they nearly destroyed.

Fairbanks, AK - Fairbanks Police are looking for a man who slipped arrest and stole a patrol vehicle.  Lieutenant Matt Soden says Julius Chambers escaped after being taken into custody at a 29th Avenue residence, where police had responded to a disturbance call. Lieutenant Soden says Chambers, among several people at the residence, was already wanted for a probation violation for an earlier assault conviction and was placed under arrest.

Alaska State Troopers are investigating complaints by members of a Delta Junction-area family that someone is setting snares around their property without their permission. Meanwhile, the Steele family wonders why the law puts the burden on property owners in these kinds of cases, instead of trappers.

Fairbanks, AK - More than five inches of snow earlier this week sent a number of vehicles off the road during the morning commute in Fairbanks.  While area residents may not be smiling about the prolonged winter, a few local businesses are thanking the weather gods.

10 a.m. update: The state Transportation Department has closed a portion of the Richardson Highway around Paxson, due to snowfall and drifts in the roadway. Traffic is being halted just south of Fort Greely until the roadway is cleared.
