The Interior Gas Utility’s board of directors approved a nearly $60 million deal Tuesday to buy Pentex Alaska and its natural gas processing, storage and transportation assets. The board’s vote is the first step toward the IGU’s $346 million plan to buy and build a gas utility for the Fairbanks area. The deal now awaits final approval by the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority’s board of directors.

Fairbanks entrepreneur Bernie Karl says he had to stop collecting plastics at his K&K Recycling facility earlier this month because he can’t find a use for the material right now that makes economic sense. But there are other places around town where people can still drop off some types of plastic – including the Fairbanks Rescue Mission, on the city’s south side.

Fairbanks, AK - The Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly voted during their regular meeting Thursday to approve a land exchange sale between the Borough and Chena Hot Springs Resort. It's a deal that’s been in the works for more than a decade.  It stalled earlier this year after a disagreement over the appraised value of the property.

Fairbanks, AK - The Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly will vote on an ordinance tonight that could finalize a land sale between the Borough and Chena Hot Springs Resort.  It’s a sale that’s been in the works for nearly a decade.  But some Assembly members believe this latest version of the deal does not jive with their intent when they allowed for further negotiations back in May.

Fairbanks, AK - After a heated work session in the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly chambers last month, the Mayor has put forth an ordinance that outlines the details for the sale of 1480 acres of property to Chena Hot Springs resort.  During last week’s regular meeting, the Assembly agreed to advance the ordinance, but only so they can discuss the details of the sale.  Some Assembly members believe the ordinance ignores previous agreements between the Borough and the Resort.

Fairbanks, AK - For nearly a decade, the Fairbanks North Star Borough and Chena Hot Springs Resort have been working on a land exchange sale.  The Resort would buy 1480 acres in exchange for a series of easements that allow access to neighboring Borough property, which includes access to land popular for recreation.  Last fall, the Assembly passed an ordinance to approve the sale.  The deal is at an impasse, because neither side can agree to the value of the property.

Fairbanks, AK - The Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly last week approved a land exchange with  Chena Hot Springs Resort.  That means owner Bernie Karl can now move ahead on two projects he says he’s had in the works for at least twelve years.

Apparently, all it takes to build a ski hill and lease a herd of reindeer is a decade’s worth of negotiations to buy 1460 acres from the Fairbanks North Star Borough.  At least that’s how things are working out for Chena Hot Springs resort owner Bernie Karl.
