Firefighters mopped up the remains of a 250-acre wildfire Sunday that busted out two days earlier in a largely residential area near Delta Junction.

Alaska Division of Forestry personnel will burn off dry vegetation in two areas around the Delta Junction State Bison Range over the next few weeks. The prescribed burns are intended to improve habitat for bison and other species that live on the range.


Fire gutted an automotive-repair shop on Fairbanks’s south side Thursday afternoon.

The cool, rainy weather that set in over the weekend throughout the Interior reduced the danger of wildfires. But local and state firefighters were kept busy responding to one structural fire and some smaller wildfires around Fairbanks.

Updated: The Clearwater Lodge near Delta Junction burned to the ground this morning. The rustic lodge was a popular gathering place for fishermen, birders and others who come to the Clearwater River.

Stuart Creek Fire East of Eielson Triples in Size

Fairbanks, AK -The Stuart Creek Fire burning on military land east of Eielson Air Force Base has tripled in size over the last three days. 

Pete Buist is a Fire Information Officer with Alaska’s Interagency Fire Information Center at Fort Wainwright.  That fire started on June 19th," he says, "but it hadn’t been very active for quite a while.  On Sunday and again on Monday it breached control lines to the north and west and made a really spectacular run.  It exhibited extreme fire behavior burning in continuous black spruce.”
