Parks Highway communities around Denali National Park are celebrating today’s grand opening of the area’s first full-service grocery store. The Three Bears Grocery in Healy is the Alaska-based company’s 10th store in the state.


The Alaska Department of Transportation’s summer road-construction season has begun, with major projects in Fairbanks and on both the Richardson and Parks highways. Crews are hustling to get as much work done as possible during the short construction season.

Many Alaskans have a soft spot for dogs, especially animals that survive against the odds. That’s the case of a stray dog that’s been wandering through Parks Highway communities since last summer, getting food from people. As KUAC’s Dan Bross reports, despite the interaction with people, the dog has eluded capture.

Wildfire Brings Parks Highway Traffic to a Standstill

Fairbanks, AK - More than 500 acres of land are on fire roughly 20 miles west of Fairbanks along the George Parks Highway.  The Skinny’s Road Fire, as it’s known, jumped a containment line overnight Wednesday and prompted an overnight closure of the Parks Highway between mileposts 317 and 344.

A Wasilla-based company has launched a new bus service that runs twice weekly on the Parks Highway between Fairbanks and Wasilla, and points in between. Schleuter Services’s buses provide economical public transportation between the Interior and Southcentral, and an essential link on the road system that enables Alaskans in rural areas to get to and from the jobs, shopping, family and friends in the city – without having to move from their communities.
