The state has lowered the water contamination threshold for perfuorinated, or PFAS compounds. The manmade chemicals, once commonly used in a variety of products, from non-stick coatings to firefighting foams, are highly water soluble, and increasingly found in groundwater worldwide, heightening concerns about human ingestion of the chemicals linked to health problems. As KUAC’s Dan Bross reports, Alaska joins other states that have reduced the contamination threshold, in effort to better protect the public.

Interior Gas Utility

The Interior Gas Utility board of directors on Tuesday authorized the utility’s general manager to execute contracts or make changes to them to complete construction of a 5.25-million gallon LNG storage tank now under construction in Fairbanks.

Bureau of Land Management

The state Division of Forestry office in Fairbanks plans to add a third timber sale to this year’s schedule, due to strong demand for firewood and other locally harvested wood products. But Forestry won’t be able to offer many more timber sales for areas that’ve been burned-over by wildfire, because not much acreage has burned in the Interior over the past three fire seasons.
