Wildlife advocates are again trying to get the state to halt the harvest of wolves along the northeastern boundary of Denali National Park. A petition signed by over 60 people, including members of the group Alaskans for Wildlife, seeks emergency action to protect wolves from being killed in the long contested area. KUAC’s Dan Bross reports.

The Air Force plans to connect properties in Moose Creek that have PFAS contaminated wells, to the North Pole city water system. The 50-million-dollar project is the Air Force’s solution to providing safe water to about 170 properties in the Moose Creek community, southeast of Fairbanks, where historic use of PFAS firefighting foams at Eielson Air Force Base, polluted groundwater. KUAC’s Dan Bross reports.

Hiker dies on trip to Stampede Trail bus

The Teklanika River has claimed another hiker on a visit to the bus featured in the book and movie Into the Wild.  A 24-year-old hiker from Belarus drowned when she was swept away by the water.

Veranika Nikanava and her new husband, Piotr  Markielau were hiking the Stampede Trail near Healy on a trip a month after they were married.
