Fairbanks Experiencing Above Average Rainfall

The Fairbanks area has seen some impressive rainfall over the last few days. National Weather Service meteorologist John Lingass reports two to three inches around Fairbanks, and three to four inches over the hills northeast of town.

"To put the rainfall in perspective, our annual precipitation in Fairbanks is around 10 to 11 inches," Lingas said. "Before the rains started a couple days ago, we had about half of our amount of precipitation for this time of year, and since that time we've well exceeded that and now we're above normal for this time of year."

Lingas says the area of low pressure that’s produced all the rain is moving off to the west, but is expected to be followed by a second faster moving system. "There will be another dose of rain that moves across the Fairbanks area Saturday. We expect amounts of around a half inch at most, at this point in time," he said.

Lingass says there may be some dry periods late Saturday with the possibility for some midnight sun on the Solstice. He says weather is anticipated to settle down and dry out as the new week progresses.
