Bryan Petrtyl
/
National Park Service

The National Park Service is beginning a field assessment of hazardous materials at the Kennecott Mines National Historic Landmark in Wrangell St. Elias National Park. The copper mining property, which primarily operated between 1901 and 1938, was acquired by the Park Service in 1998, and as KUAC’s Dan Bross reports the agency aims to ensure public and staff safety at the historic site.

Dan has been in public radio news in Alaska since 1993. He’s worked as a reporter, newscaster and talk show host at stations in McGrath, Valdez and Fairbanks. Dan’s experience includes coverage of a wide range of topics, from wolf control to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and dog mushing.
