The Commander of Alaska’s largest military installation announced today that it’s easing-up on some of its COVID-19 precautions, effective at 5 p.m. Friday.Joint Base Elemendorf Richardson Commander Col. Kirsten Aguilar says the decision is due mainly on successful efforts to slow community spread of the disease and the base’s ongoing vaccination program.
“These positive trends and your efforts to minimize the spread of the virus allow us to rescind the public health emergency and return to Health Protection Condition Bravo,” Aguilar said in a video announcement posted to social media.
JBER officials declared the public health emergency on Nov. 9, due to growing number of COVID cases in the Anchorage area. They also elevated the base’s precaution level to Health Protection Condition Charlie, the second-highest level. JBER will now operate under a lower level of precaution called HPCon Bravo, which allows greater access to the base and larger gatherings on the base.
Eielson Air Force Base and Fort Greely both have lowered their health-protection levelsthis week. Fort Wainwright officials say the post also will transition to HPCon Bravo on or before Friday.
