Tok Chamber to Host Online/Telephonic Meeting on Kinross’ Plans for Gold Mine

The Tok Chamber of Commerce will host a meeting Tuesday for Kinross Gold officials to talk about plans for the company’s newly acquired mine near Tok.The meeting will be held online and by telephone from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday. (See contact information, below.)
A Kinross spokesperson says company officials will give an update on their plans for developing the Peak Gold project south of Tok. Kinross paid about $94 million in September for a 70 percent stake in mine off the Alaska Highway south of Tok.
Kinross officials say they want to develop an open-pit mine there and transport the ore by truck to the company’s mill north of Fairbanks, 250 miles away.
The company hopes to bring the project online in 2024, and produce a million ounces of gold over 4 and half years.
