Weather Service Issues Flood Watch, Advisories Due to Heavy Rain

National Weather Service

While fire remains a concern for the Fairbanks area, many areas to the east are under a flood watch issued today by the National Weather Service.

The flood watch will be in effect through 6 a.m. Friday for the Delta Junction area, including Deltana and the Tanana Flats and around Tok, including the Upper Tanana and the Fortymile.

The weather service says rain throughout the area over the past few days may cause the Goodpaster River to rise above flood level. And it cautions residents and Fourth of July campers to watch for flooding and be prepared to leave low-lying areas that may be inundated.

The weather service also has issued small-stream flood advisories for much of the eastern Interior, including Denali east of the Railbelt and on to the Canadian border

The weather service predicts heavy rain through Thursday in Deltana and Tanana Flats, and steady rain elsewhere around the eastern Interior, tapering off on Friday. And partly cloudy to cloudy skies and a chance of showers over the weekend.
