U.S. Census Resumes in Interior

Only 49% of the households in the Fairbanks North Star Borough have responded to the Census. Officials worry this puts the area at risk for poor representation and government funding in the next decade. The pandemic has forced a change in strategy to get resident to complete the 10 questions on the Census form.

Census Begins Online Today

The U.S. Census starts today (Thursday.) The official count is to record where all Americans are on April 1st, 2020. But those who want a head start can fill out the short 10-question form on-line at My2020Census.Gov starting today. Local coordinators in the Interior are pushing hard with public events to raise awareness of the count.

The head of the U.S. Census Bureau stopped by Delta Junction Thursday as part of a tour around the state to encourage Alaskans to participate in the 2020 Census.


The United States Census will begin knocking on doors in Tooksook Bay on January 21st, 2020. After that, Census workers will fan out all over the state to record how many people live in Alaska. Census workers are being hired and trained now. But the materials they hand out are in only one official Alaskan language: English. But translation into Native Languages has no funding nor priority from the Census Bureau.
