Alaska State Troopers and members of a Special Emergency Response Team searched area near Delta Junction Wednesday and again today for a 19-year-old Fairbanks man who eluded capture Tuesday in Anchorage after a high-speed chase that ended when he wrecked his vehicle.

Alaska State Troopers revealed details Friday on the fatal shooting of a suspect during an attempt to arrest him on warrants charging several counts of sexually abusing a minor. And they identified the two officers who fired their weapons while searching for the suspect in an area about 40 miles south of Delta Junction.

The state Department of Public Safety has identified the two Alaska State Troopers who were part of last weekend’s fatal officer-involved shooting near Fairbanks.

Alaska State Troopers are investigating an officer-involved fatal shooting of a suspect this weekend at a residence on the North Side of Fairbanks.

The Fairbanks City Council voted Monday to allow consumption of marijuana at authorized cannabis shops in town.

Anchorage police Lieutenant Nancy Reeder has accepted Fairbanks Mayor Jim Matherly’s offer   to serve as the city’s new police chief.

The Fairbanks Police department remains understaffed, despite a recently approved hiring bonus. Police Chief Eric Jewkes told City Council members this week the substandard pay is driving high turnover and making recruiting difficult. And while a new labor contract is being contested in court, Jewkes says the short-staffed department must deal with a spike in violent crime.

Alaska State Troopers have arrested a 16-year-old male and charged him with arson for setting a house in Delta Junction on fire last weekend and the May 15th  fire that destroyed the Clearwater Lodge.
