Office of the Governor

Governor Bill Walker is inviting businesspersons from around the state who are interested in boosting trade with Alaska’s largest international trading partner to come along on a China trade mission to be launched in May.  A member of the Walker administration says the governor is especially interested in bringing along representatives of the mining and tourism industries.

Fairbanks and Anchorage will both get a big economic boost in May during a series of events to be held in conjunction with a major meeting of top diplomats from the eight Arctic Council member nations. The Week of the Arctic will also enable the peoples of those nations to share their cultures.

Updated: The Iditarod Trail Committee on Friday announced this year's race will restart beginning at 11 a.m. Monday at the starting line on Hoselton Road, near Pike’s Waterfront Lodge.

Organizers of this year’s Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race and their local partners will wait until Friday to announce the starting point of this year’s course. Plan A is to start at Pike’s Landing on the Chena River at 11 a.m. Monday. If the ice isn’t safe enough, Plan B is to start it nearby, on Hoselton Road. But one thing is certain: a stretch of Airport Way will be closed for several hours Monday.
