Dawson Layover Extended to 40 Hours

Dawson City, YK - Yukon Quest race officials have extended the mandatory 36 hour layover in Dawson City by four hours.  It’s the second major change to this year’s race.

Dawson City, YK - Yukon Quest personnel are scrambling to get the chute and the dog yard together in Dawson City as teams make their way into the fourth race checkpoint.  This year’s fast race pace has kept everyone on their toes.

Quest Trail Rerouted

Braeburn, AK - Yukon Quest Trailbreakers are unable to punch through glaciated ice along the Taylor Highway over American Summit.  Race Marshall Doug Grilliot has decided to shorten the trail by 50 miles and eliminate the climb.  “You know how snow gets scoured, where you can’t even put a boot to it? I’m envisioning that at 45 degree angles.”

Grilliot says if even the trailbreakers can't get through with snow machines, it's not worth trying it with dog teams.
