The 54th annual Equinox Marathon is this Saturday in Fairbanks. A new book “The Equinox: Alaska’s Trailblazing Marathon” explores the story of the interior Alaska running classic, and its surprising significance in marathon history. KUAC’s Dan Bross spoke with the the book’s author: 5 time Equinox Marathon champion Matias Saari about why the event is more than just a race.

New Trail on Ester Dome in the Works

Fairbanks, AK - The Fairbanks North Star Borough, the State Department of Transportation and an area trail users group are in the beginning stages of a cooperative plan to build a new trail along Ester Dome Road.  The trail would be used for the annual Equinox Marathon, but it’s also a way to improve safety for runners, bikers and other residents who regularly use the road for recreation.

Fairbanks, AK - More than 800 runners are signed up for the 51st Equinox Marathon, Ultramarathon and Relay this year.  They’ll leave the start line this coming Saturday.  Race officials are scrambling with a few last minute changes to the race course

The 50th running of the Equinox Marathon starts at 8 a.m. tomorrow at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The field of over 12 hundred entrants is on par with participation in the race during its early years. KUAC’s Dan Bross reports.

Epic 92 Storm Remembered

September has started out on the cool side in Fairbanks. The National Weather Service reports that the temperature over the first 10 days of the month averaged 47.9 degrees. That’s 2.2 degrees below normal, and the coolest since 2004, but nothing like the unseasonable weather that hit Fairbanks 20 years ago.
