Golden Valley Electric Association customers will be paying more for electricity over the next few months, due to the temporary loss of two sources of cheap power. The utility’s chief executive says problems with the Healy 2 power plant and a hydropower plant transmission line near Homer will boost the average residential ratepayer’s monthly bill we by about $11 through February.

President Trump says he’s ready to move ahead this year on his campaign pledge to pass a trillion-dollar program to improve the nation’s infrastructure. That’s motivated officials with a Glennallen-based economic development organization and the electrical co-op that serves the area to dust off an old plan to build a 300-mile-long high-tension power line that would run from the Mat-Su Valley community of Sutton to Tok and Delta Junction.

Small hydro-electric projects proposed for the Cantwell area are receiving a mixed response.  As KUAC’s Dan Bross reports, the proposals outlined at a public meeting this week include both dam and river diversion projects.
