Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival Opera Artistic Director, Jaunelle Celaire invited guest artists and participants from the Opera/Musical Theatre program. Participants performed excerpts from popular operas and talked about the lead up to their performance on Davis Concert Hall Stage Saturday afternoon.

Rachel Baron Pine joined Lori Neufeld in the KUAC studio for Alaska Live performing a few violin pieces and discussing her extensive career. Rachel, originally from Chicago, was in Fairbanks for just 24 hrs as the spotlight guest artist for the "Sitka Winter Classic" put on by the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra. Rachel showcased her elaborate range of music appreciation from classical violin work to her contribution towards heavy metal and modern violin compositions.

Colin McAllister, a classical guitarist, along with Morris Palter, a UAF Music Professor, joined Lori Neufeld in the KUAC studio to discuss this weekend's Northern Exposure Festival of Modern Music here at UAF. Colin is a featured musician in the festival from Colorado and he gave a sneak peak into some of the pieces he will performing. Colin shined new light onto 12th century compositions with his unique guitar manipulation and original arrangements.

Tom Robenolt, Allan Hayton, Kat Wodtke and Sarah Mitchell joined Lori Neufeld in the KUAC studio to discuss their partnership on events revolving around the Shakespeare Uncovered Season 2 premiere. The Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre  members talked about the challenges of translating Shakespeare's work into Gwich'in. Mitchell and Wodtke even performed a scene on air from an upcoming performance. There were a few musical performances as well, including a gorgeous Gwich'in traditional and an original by Wodtke called "Corduroy Road."

Young Fangs

Young Fangs joined Lori Neufeld in the KUAC studio to discuss and play a few tracks off an upcoming untitled record. Young Fangs have been working hard on a proper debut studio album after finding success playing shows around Alaska these last few years. Their songs tend to have uplifting themes and catchy choruses that find you bobbing your head before you know it. Young Fangs were a pleasure to have here at KUAC and shared charismatic stories of the beginnings of the band and their progress since.

Annie Bartholomew

Delightful holiday music filled the KUAC Alaska Live studios from the UAF string students group, The Nanook String Quartet. Rose Crelli and Annalisa Taylor, violins; Trevor Adams, viola; Sean Braendel, cello make up this talented group of students playing favorite Christmas carols and seasonal music. They shared history and backstories for the tunes too.
