Law enforcement officers are asking the public to build a new training facility. At an online meeting Thursday, engineers will review 10 possible sites in the Fairbanks area for a new shooting range and ambulance driver training area, and they are looking for public input.


Repeated cases of actual or alleged police brutality, have spurred conversation about officer worn body cameras across the U.S. As KUAC’s Karen Simmons reports, the technology has already proven effective in Fairbanks police departments.

Fairbanks’s mayor and police chief rolled out a new approach to law enforcement last night. The community policing program is getting started in crime-plagued South Fairbanks.


Anchroage, AK - Fairbanks City Mayor John Eberhart addressed close to 3000 people Thursday during the opening remarks at this year’s Alaska Federation of Natives Convention.

 

This year’s theme is ‘Rise as One.’ Eberhart offered his opinion on what that might mean.

The 2 finalists vying to be the city of Fairbanks next Police Chief answered questions during a public forum last (Mon 9-29) night.  As KUAC’s Dan Bross reports, the emphasis was on police interaction with the public in a diverse community.

A new agreement narrowly approved Monday by the Fairbanks City Council will reduce overtime and give the city’s police officers and dispatchers a break on health insurance costs.

Fairbanks, AK - It’s not illegal to carry a concealed weapon in Alaska and the state doesn’t require a permit. But according to a seventeen-year-old policy created by the University of Alaska Board of Regents, guns are amongst a number of weapons that are not allowed on University property.  On December 8th, a former employee violated the weapons policy, carried a gun into the University of Alaska Fairbanks library and shot himself the incident sparked questions about how the policy is enforced.
