Fairbanks’s drone center is celebrating 25 automated flights to Alaska villages last month. The flights were made in a Cessna Grand Caravan, without a person in the pilot’s seat, (although there was a safety pilot ready to take over on every flight.) The tests demonstrated how emergency medicine, and eventually cargo, could be delivered across the state.

Kinross Alaska plans to start trial runs later this summer of ore-hauling trucks from its Manh Choh gold mine south of Tok to its mill north of Fairbanks to prepare for a full-scale hauling operations next summer. But a group opposed to the trucking plan says the company should wait until the state builds passing lanes and makes other safety improvements along the highway haul route.

The Sag River has again washed-out a stretch of the Dalton Highway, this time near Deadhorse. The state Transportation Department closed the highway Tuesday night and reopened it on Wednesday to one lane of traffic only.
