There was an unusual winter bear sighting in the White Mountains National Recreation Area north of Fairbanks. A group of skiers encountered a grizzly while travelling along a trail between 2 public use cabins. As KUAC’s Dan Bross reports, the bear was not aggressive, but the incident raises the question of whether winter backcountry travelers should carry bear protection.
