Superintendent finalists chosen

The Superintendent search for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School has been narrowed to four finalists.

School Board President Chrya (Troy-ah) Sanderson announced their names after a lengthy executive session.

“Frank Hauser, Luke Meinart, Ryan Scallon, and Ronnie Tarchichi,” she said.

A specialty search firm, Ray and Associates, has worked with the board and narrowed 21 applications down to a list of recommended candidates. The School Board met at 5:30 last night to interview the last of that short list. All of the interviews were conducted in private, executive sessions.

Then the board met in a private session with Steve Chestnut and Jan Vesely of Ray and Associates, to review, compare, and contrast candidates, and select finalists using a Decision Matrix.

Of the four men selected as finalists, two are Alaskan; Luke Meinart is Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools for the FNSBSD. And Frank Hauser is Superintendent, Sitka School District.

Dr. Ronnie Tarchichi is superintendent of Pennsauken Public Schools in Pennsauken, New Jersey.

Ryan Scallon is the Assistant Superintendent at the School District of Philadelphia.

The school district and Ray and Associates are not going to publish information about all the applicants. But later today, the district will make an announcement and will release more background information about the finalists.

Last night the board also worked on preparing questions they would like to ask the four finalists. The district projects having them visit the Fairbanks area in person on February 16, 17 and 18.

The board has two meetings and two worksessions scheduled for next week.
