Alaska "Almost" Live with FSO's Woodwind Soloists

FSO

Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra got very creative for their season including allowing their first woodwinds of the whole pandemic on stage behind plexiglass. Clarinetist April Jaillet and flutist Dorli McWayne talked with host Lori Neufeld about playing the parts of the cuckoo, birds in flight and aquarium inhabitants. Camille Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals was narrated, conducted from the piano and directed by Eduard Zilberkant and performed by the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra as part of the Jack and Carol Wilbur Concert. Here's the conversation and perfomance. Enjoy!

Lori’s love for public broadcasting runs deep. She was raised on Car Talk, Morning Edition, Adventures in Good Music with Karl Haas, and later while studying wildlife biology at Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas, she realized that if she helped answer phones during the fund drive at KMUW, she could meet and chat with the hosts of locally produced shows.
