Fairbanks, AK – The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner prides itself on being Interior Alaska's local paper. When thousands of the region's Army and Air Force troops went to Iraq last year, its military reporter Margaret Friedenauer followed the local story. She just returned from her 6 week assignment in Iraq, where she wrote articles and kept a blog. As Friedenauer tells KUAC's Libby Casey, her editors believed it was a worthwhile assignment, but worried about sending one of their reporters to a war zone.
