9/25/06 – Larkin has never held public office, but did work in Juneau as an aid to Jim Holms. He also says he made his living as a handyman on large construction projects until legislators passed a law baring piecemeal work on expensive jobs. Larkin waged a well publicized lobbying effort against that law. And he recently told KUAC's Sarah Neal that he doesn't regret the effort because it gained him political experience.
PLEASE NOTE: In this interview, Larkin criticizes incumbent Jim Whitaker for offering Domestic Partner Benefits to gay public employees. This is somewhat incorrect. A mayor only plays an administrative role in Human Resources Policy and the Borough has been required to provide these benefits since October 2005.
