Fairbanks, AK - An extremely rare bank note goes up for auction in Dallas, Texas today (October 17). Bids start at 120-thousand dollars, but experts say it could sell for up to 300-thousand dollars. That five dollar bill belonged to the Golden Heart City’s namesake, United States Vice President, Charles W. Fairbanks. It’s one of four printed for the First National Bank of Fairbanks in 1905. Behind several locked doors at the Museum of the North, another one rests in a folder in mint condition.
Angela Lin is the Collections Manager for Ethnology and History at the Museum of the North at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. She spoke with KUAC’s Emily Schwing about a rare five dollar bill in the museum’s collection. A similar bank note goes up for auction in Texas today.
