Watch Ana Egge & The Sentimentals Perform Live In The Studio

Singer-songwriter Ana Egge is a collaborator at heart: She's worked with Ron Sexsmith, Steve Earle, The Stray Birds and many others throughout her rich career. Her latest partnership is with M.C. Hansen, Nikolaj Wolf and Jacob Chano, who form the Danish folk-rock trio The Sentimentals.

In July, Ana Egge and The Sentimentals came by for a Folk Alley session taping at Beehive Productions Studio in Saranac Lake, N.Y. Here, they perform "Away We Go" from their album Say That Now. About the song, Egge says, "I was on the road with my cellist David Moss when we stopped for the night in Bristol, Tenn., and wrote this song in a hotel room. We started writing it about Michael Brown, the man who shot him, the dangerous hatred that lurks in racist hearts, the theater of the 'news' on TV and the disconnect between the generations on how we view all of the above.

"I've been reflecting on that song more, too, because of the Trump issue," she continues. "Just how divided people are about how they see things, like I try to express in the last verse. Opinions on who deserves what and why — praise or punishment — and how very isolated lots of people are in this country. We're supposed to be the great melting pot, the great experiment. We must keep claiming freedom and justice for all for every citizen."
