Alaska Live

Schedule varies (Due to COVID-19, KUAC is unable to produce live Alaska Live broadcasts until such time that the global pandemic no longer poses a significant threat to life.)

The Alaska Live series of live performance and conversations with visiting and local artists is made possible from a generous grant from Design Alaska and contributors like you.

Alaska Live archives are available on this page and more about Alaska Live TV and episodes can be found at http://kuac.org/kuac-tv/alaska-live-tv/

A cast of 56 kids would not fit in the KUAC Alaska Live studios but they are all on the FACT stage the first two weekends of April for the production of "James and the Giant Peach Jr" musical. James and his bug friends gave a sneak preview with songs and scenes. We get to know the kids who play the "bug-human mutant hybrids" and James with Fairbanks Academy of Children's Theatre or FACT on this delightful Alaska Live.

The Holler! make KUAC's Alaska Live one of their stops on an Alaska tour. Michael Kirkpatrick fronts the band with his mandolin and amazing songwriting skills. Josh Fogler lays down the rhythm on drums and Joel Searls keeps it funky with bass lines. Folkedelic is one description that fits this trio really well.

Holly Rees

Mar 7, 2019
Carolyn Gray

Catch Holly's only show in America on this episode of Alaska Live. Through a connection between Rees' grandpa and local KUAC folks, Don and Carolyn Gray, Holly was in Fairbanks for a few days and borrowed a guitar to share her indie folk tunes and fun banter.

Lori Neufeld

Improvosation is highlighted by all the groups here for Fairbanks Concert Association's FEBfest. Sirius Quartet started off Alaska Live with an arrangement of Elenor Rigby and shared original compositions too. SEVEN)SUNS rocked hard with their brand of neo-classical and heavy metal string quartet music. Silverman/Futureman rounded out the session with truly one-of-a-kind electric violin and drumitar improvised tunes. Find some time and some space for innovation and inspiration from these talented folks.

Bobby Lewis and Eustace Johnson bring back the soulful sounds of Motown and Winter Gospel to the KUAC studios. They are joined by local talent "The Alaska Supremes" Debra Pearson, Willa Watts and Yvonne McHenry. If you have the winter blues, this is the antidote!

EXTRA! EXTRA! Hear all about it! Lathrop High School brings the energy and excitement of its musical production "Newsies" to the KUAC Alaska Live studios.

Hot Club Of Cowtown

Jan 18, 2019

Get a preview of Across the Great Divide tour and songs from Hot Club of Cowtown's latest release "Crossing the Great Divide". Plenty of vintage jazz and western swing in this session along their takes on The Band songs that are on the EP and part of the tour. Find out how Elana ended up studying North Indian Classical music during college in India, and how seriously Whit took practicing jazz guitar early in life and Jake's love of all things upright bass here on this episode of Alaska Live.

Jennifer Wienke

Spring Awakening is a rock musical based on the 1891 German play of the same name. FLOT After Dark takes on this production with themes that are still a part of teenagers realities today; sexuality, sex, suicide and teenager-parent relationships.

Chicken Soup for the Frostbit Soul kicks off the Music in the Woods series. Get a preview with Alaska Live host Lori Neufeld and guest Michael Shaeffer, local poet and author. Stories and poetry that might make you laugh, cry and even recall cartoons of your childhood from his show and latest book of poetry "No Exit for Chickens". R2D2, Foghorn Leghorn, Yoda, Crusty the Clown, Tenzing Norgay and Junko Tabei all make appearances in the KUAC studio through the power of poetry.

Christopher Quist

A homecoming for Caitlin Warebelow and a chance for these other great musicians to enjoy Alaska at its finest. Troy MacGillivray is one of the finest fiddlers and his sister Sabra Macgillivray was a blur of step dancing with guitarist Louis Charles Vigneau adding flar to the set.
