Fairbanks, AK - KUAC has covered the Yukon Quest International sled dog race since it began in 1984. At first, our hosts read the latest race standings over the air waves. But for twenty years, we’ve sent reporters out on the trail. Emily Schwing is on the trail this year. Before she left Fairbanks, she caught up with previous Yukon Quest reporters and producers Theresa Bakker, Dan Bross, Libby Casey and John McWhorter. McWhorter was KUAC’s first reporter on the trail.

This year, 26 teams are gearing up for today’s race start. They left from Whitehorse, the capital of Canada's Yukon Territory on Saturday, February 2nd.
