Yukon King Run May Be Improving

Alaska Department of Fish and Game

A stronger than expected run of Yukon River Chinook salmon is allowing fishery managers to loosen subsistence harvest restrictions on both the U.S. and Canadian sides of the river. As KUAC’s Dan Bross reports, the better than anticipated run is still small by historical standards, but may signal that Yukon King stocks are beginning to rebuild.

Dan has been in public radio news in Alaska since 1993. He’s worked as a reporter, newscaster and talk show host at stations in McGrath, Valdez and Fairbanks. Dan’s experience includes coverage of a wide range of topics, from wolf control to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and dog mushing.
