What do you want in a new superintendent?

FNSB School District

The Fairbanks Board of Education is asking for public opinion about hiring a new superintendent. They want parents and community members to take on online survey in the next three weeks.

The survey asks what qualities the public is looking for in the next superintendent. It is anonymous and managed through the consulting firm Ray & Associates, who the board hired to help find a new superintendent.

Public comment influenced the last superintendent hiring process. In 2020, the board had narrowed it’s selection to five candidates, but emailed comments and public testimony convinced the board to continue looking.

In the meantime, Karen Melin (mah-LEEN) was hired in the temporary position of Chief School Administrator.

The board has begun the process to hire a the next superintendent who will start the 2023-24 school year.

A link to the survey is on the school district’s website: https://www.k12northstar.org/Page/10738

The board says there will be more opportunities for feedback throughout the process over the next few months.

They would like folks to complete the 31 Qualities Survey by 8:00 am on December 9 to share your feedback with the Board.

For more information, the public can contact: Joshua DuVall, Director of Communications, (907) 452-2000 ext.11438, or joshua.duvall@k12northstar.org.
