Crews installed the bronze statue of hall-of-famer and former Goldpanner David Winfield in Fairbanks Thursday. The legal deal defining the tax value of the Trans-Alaska pipeline is set to expire at the end of the year. The bill defunding public media and some foreign aid programs has now cleared the House and Senate, despite objections from Alaska Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski. The U.S. Department of Agriculture axed a program this week that was supporting farmers and food producers in Alaska.
