An Anchorage woman has been charged with murder in connection with a deadly shooting at a Fairbanks home on Saturday.

Brooklyn Whitman, 27, is accused of shooting and killing 34-year-old Ashlee Spann, of Fairbanks, at an apartment on Vassar Circle, near Chena Pump Road. Spann’s next of kin have been notified.

According to an online dispatch, Troopers received reports early Saturday morning of a disturbance and gunshot at the apartment. Troopers say a preliminary investigation showed Whitman went to the residence, argued with Spann, and then shot her before fleeing the scene.

According to the dispatch, investigators located Whitman Saturday, and she was arrested and remanded to Fairbanks Correctional Center. She’s charged with one count of first degree murder and one count of misconduct involving weapons. Online court records show Whitman was arraigned Saturday, and that her next hearing is scheduled for Dec. 2.
