‘I don't anticipate any surprises,’ borough clerk says

Two members of the Denali Borough Assembly and two district school board incumbents are asking voters to allow them to hold on to their seats in Tuesday’s local election.

The two Denali Borough Assembly members seeking re-election both represent District 3, which includes the communities of Healy, Otto Lake, Rock Creek, Lignite and Ferry, in the northern portion of the borough. Jeremy Stanfield occupies Seat C and Walter Warner holds Seat D.

Denali Borough School board member Tami Ohland seeks re-election to Seat E in District 3. And Lauren Bruns will hold onto Seat A in District 1,which includes Cantwell and Carlo Creek, in the southern portion of the borough.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in three locations around the borough, at the Tri-Valley, McKinley Park and Cantwell community centers.

Borough Clerk Amber Renshaw says she she’s unaware of anyone mounting a write-in campaign to challenge any of the four unopposed incumbents, So she expects unofficial results will be available later in the evening of Election Day.

“As soon as we get all those results in, we will post something on our website,” she said. “We also post on our Facebook page. And then the next morning, of course, we'll post on our regular locations, which is the post offices.”

Renshaw says on November 10th, a canvass board will review all absentee, questioned and late-arriving mail-in ballots. A couple days later, the Assembly will declare official election results.

“ Certification will happen Wednesday the 12th at the Assembly meeting. But like I said, I don't anticipate any surprises.”

She says the borough’s official voter turnout numbers also will be available Wednesday.
