1. As time runs short in the special legislative session, state senators are studying a House-passed bill offering tax cuts for a North Slope natural gas pipeline.

2. Animal control officials last month found 40 sled dogs and five puppies living in filthy conditions at a Fairbanks-area kennel. Many area residents say the case shows the limitations of measures intended to protect animals from mistreatment.

3. Sen. Lisa Murkowski and other members of Congress are trying to stop the National Science Foundation from eliminating a system that monitors the oceans.

4. GCI internet and mobile service has been restored in western Alaska and the Aleutian Islands after an undersea fiber-optic cable was damaged three weeks ago.
