Denali Borough Offers More COVID Testing

Interior Community Health Center

The Denali Borough will offer more COVID-19 testing beginning Monday in three communities. Borough Emergency Manager Chris Noel told the Assembly Wednesday the additional testing will be offered at two schools and the Tri-Valley Community Center in Healy.

“We’re offering testing on-site at the schools – Monday in Cantwell, Wednesday in Anderson,” Noel said. “And then Monday and Wednesday evenings, from 4:30 to 6:30 in Healy, at the testing trailer.”

Denali Borough Schools Superintendent Dan Polta says the district coordinated with the borough to make the testing available to staff as well as members of both communities. Polta says the district is now working to make school-based testing available to students.

The additional testing should take the pressure off clinics in Healy and Cantwell, which Noel says are now focused on providing covid vaccines to those eligible for the first round of shots.

“Cantwell and Interior Community Health Center clinics have been dispending vaccine since our last meeting. So, that’s exciting news,” he said.

The expanded testing is being funded by the federal CARES Act.
