Hiker Rescued, Injuries Treated at Basset

A hiker, who became the subject of a search last week near Chena Hot Springs Resort east of Fairbanks, was located safe over the weekend.

Alaska State Troopers report that a driver came across 21-year-old Evan Corneliussen of South Carolina, near mile 32 Chena Hot Springs Road, late Saturday night.

They say Corneliussen had an injured foot and the motorist drove him to the hospital at Ft. Wainwright for treatment.

Corneliussen had headed out hiking with his dog after being dropped off by friends May 11th at the Charlie Dome trailhead at Chena Hot Springs Resort.  An air and ground search for him  began Thursday, and had been suspended Saturday before he was picked up along Chena Hot Springs Road that night.
