Sikuliaq to Hit Water

Dan Bross

A large contingent of Alaskans is in Wisconsin to attend tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) launch of a new arctic research vessel that will be home ported in Alaska. The 261 foot ship is called the Sikuliaq (see-KOO-lee-auk), the Inupiaq word for young sea ice.  It’s owned by the National Science Foundation and will be operated by the University of Alaska Fairbanks.  KUAC’s Dan Bross reports from Marinette, Wisconsin.

Dan has been in public radio news in Alaska since 1993. He’s worked as a reporter, newscaster and talk show host at stations in McGrath, Valdez and Fairbanks. Dan’s experience includes coverage of a wide range of topics, from wolf control to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and dog mushing.
