The Alaska Travel Industry Association kicks off its annual convention here in Fairbanks today.
More than 460 members of the association from around the state will gather at the Westmark Fairbanks Hotel and Convention for the three-day get-together.
Among other things, the Association convened its first-ever public policy summit. The summit, held Monday, brought together tourism-industry representatives, and state and federal officials. An association news release says they discussed land-permitting and access around the state, which is a major issue for the tourism industry.
Summit participants also will consider resolutions recognizing the importance of arts and culture in promoting tourism.
