Event Fosters Awareness And Healing

Dan Bross
/
KUAC

A gathering was held in Fairbanks yesterday (Sun) to mourn and raise awareness about historic abuse, neglect, and forced assimilation of Native children at government and church run residential schools in the US and Canada. The Fairbanks event and others like it in both countries follow the discovery last month of the remains of 215 indigenous children buried at a residential school in British Columbia, which closed in the late 1970’s.

Dan has been in public radio news in Alaska since 1993. He’s worked as a reporter, newscaster and talk show host at stations in McGrath, Valdez and Fairbanks. Dan’s experience includes coverage of a wide range of topics, from wolf control to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and dog mushing.
