The National Science Foundation’s new arctic research vessel Sikuliaq (see-KOOL-ee-AK) will spend the winter undergoing trials in the Great Lakes. The 261 foot ship to be operated by the University of Alaska Fairbanks, was launched in Lake Michigan a year ago, but as KUAC’s Dan Bross reports, the Sikuliaq’s original target date for arrival at home port in Seward has been delayed a year due to technical problems.

Dan has been in public radio news in Alaska since 1993. He’s worked as a reporter, newscaster and talk show host at stations in McGrath, Valdez and Fairbanks. Dan’s experience includes coverage of a wide range of topics, from wolf control to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and dog mushing.
