A new compound found in Fairbanks’s winter air might reveal new strategies for fighting air pollution. Researchers at University of Alaska Fairbanks have started a three-year study to track the new compound that is a big part of the fine-particle pollution that causes health problems in the Interior.

People here in Alaska and in much of this part of the Northern Hemisphere will get a chance tonight to see a total lunar eclipse, weather permitting.  It’ll be another appearance of the so-called “Blood Moon.”

UPDATED: Seismic activity continued around Alaska into this morning, following the strong earthquake centered near Yakutat that rattled portions of southern Alaska and the Yukon Territory early Thursday.


Fairbanks, AK - The Air Force has paused a plan to demolish the HAARP facility, as it reconsiders options for transferring its ionospheric research infrastructure near Gakona to another entity. As KUAC’s Dan Bross reports, that could be the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
