Early voting continues in the Fairbanks North Star Borough municipal election. An early voting station is set up through Thursday (Sept 28) this week at the Shoppers Forum mall on Lathrop Street in Fairbanks from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
In-person absentee voting is open at all three clerk’s offices: at the Borough Building on Terminal Street, the Fairbanks City Hall on Cushman and the North Pole City Hall on Snowman Lane. That is 8:00 to 5:00 on weekdays until Monday October 2, the day before Election Day.
This Friday, in-person absentee voting moves in to the Shoppers Forum location from 9:00 to 6:00 p.m. for just two days, Friday and next Monday.
There is a small distinction between early voting and in-person absentee voting; it is just as easy for the voter, but it is counted at different times. Early votes are counted on Election night, in-person absentee votes, like all absentee votes, are counted a week after the election.
If you’d like to vote absentee by mail, you must have your application in to the Borough Clerk’s office by tomorrow, Tuesday September 26. If you’d like to vote absentee on line, your application is due by noon on October 2, the day before Election Day.
Polling places will be open on Tuesday October 3 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
